Meaning of zawaj:
Islam
is a religion of peace and the real meaning of Islam is a “DEEN OF PEACE”. So,
Islam is not a religion it’s a complete Deen which tells the human beings what
to do and which things are best for you to lay a solid foundation of successful
life. In Islam marriages are considered as an integral part of Muslim’s life. In
Islamic marriages Nikah is an important part and after Nikah bride becomes the
life partner of her husband for whole life. Islam relates this beautiful
relation of wife with her husband as Zawaj. Zawaj is a plural of zowja which
means wife and Islam gave lots of rights to the wives. So, being a husband, you
are liable to fulfill all the duties which Islam ordered to you for your wife.
Keep in mind Islam gives the equal importance to both husband and wife.So, in Islam no one is greater than any other. However, husband has importance for the wife and wife should has to obey her husband at any cost except, when her husband order her to do which is against the moral values and forbidden by Islam.
The law of Separate accommodation for wives:
If we see deeply in the Islamic laws for Zawaj then we will come to know that the wife has the right to live in separate accommodation with her husband and children. This step can be taken by the women if she feels very uncomfortable by sharing its accommodation with anyone like her in-law or relatives. Furthermore, wife has also right to refuse the order of her husband by living with his father and mother or even with siblings. This concept can be seen in Hanafi, Shaafa’i and Hanbali fuqaha which is also available in different Islamic books.
Responsibilities of zowja:
Keep in mind, in Islam, husband is just like a guardian of his wife and he is answerable in front of Allah for the rights of his wife. Husband has to fulfill all the daily life things for his wife and for his children. A wife or zowja in Islam has complete freedom except for some necessary things like she has to cover her body with “Dobatta” in order to avoid any problem or from evil human beings. Remember, a wife is a manager of any house and she has the responsibility to fulfill her husband’s rights like serving food when he comes back from his job. Moreover, zowja or wife should have to take care of her children and provide them best early education before they get into the proper schooling environment.
Islam and proper rights of Zawaj:
As we have already discussed about the Zawaj and zowja. If a men marriage with more than one woman in his life, then he is also responsible for all his wives. He is responsible to the rights of women and will be charged if he do anything wrong with any of his wife in his life. Therefore, we can say that the rights of Zawaj are very great and both husband and wife have equal rights in Islam and they have to take care of each other.
