In the few days before the wedding, a bride does not find the time to take a moment off from all the chaos, of the wedding preparations. Right up from deciding the attire, bridal makeup, jewelry, invitations, caterers and several other preparations involving the decoration and arrangements at the place where the marriage will take place.

However, an aspect that the bride cannot afford to forget is the hair. Even in daily routine, it is imperative to maintain a hair care schedule which eventually leads to a healthy, shiny mane and hence the term ‘crowning glory’. There are several websites which provide hair care tips, salon trips (2-3 months prior to the wedding) can be made and home remedies can also be applied, given that the time is available. The best foundation for a beautiful bridal hairstyle is healthy and well-maintained hair.

HAIR TYPES

Categorize your hair into any of the three types – oily, dry and normal and care for them accordingly. In case it is dry / oily, use proper treatments to ensure that they look healthy on the wedding day.

HAIR CUTS

Don’t get your hair cut just before the wedding! It’s better to go for a simple trim and with the help of friends; the bride can try a lot of hairstyles from fashion magazines to check which style would suit her best – with the attire. Dustings or incredibly minor trims, every eight weeks to keep split ends in check and make sure your hairstyle looks fresh.

SPA & SALON TREATMENT

Regular spa treatments should be taken at least twice a month. There are different types of spa treatments according to the hair condition. For example, treatments for dry and frizzy hair, limp and lifeless hair, very curly and unmanageable hair etc.

WET HAIR

Always use a wide-toothed comb to remove the tangles from your hair and avoid using a brush for the same. This might lead to excessive breakage, as wet hair is quite fragile and brittle. Always use a wide-toothed comb to remove the tangles from your hair.

DIET

Drinking at least 8 glasses of water in a day and increasing the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables will help improve the overall health of your hair. Avoid foods that contain too much oil or spices. Conveniently, a healthy diet with protein and folic acid is also great for your skin! In addition to all this, adequate sleep, regular exercise and a stress-free mind is a must for the bride to-be.

WASH

Shampooing, conditioning and applying serum are the three must-dos to keep your hair healthy and shiny. Shampooing daily with a gentle shampoo is necessary, conditioning your hair after a shampoo is a must and Serum adds that extra protection to your hair and protects it from the pollution and harmful sun-rays. Wash your hair at least 2 to 3 times before the d- day. Avoid going out in heavy wind or harsh sun and if you can’t avoid it, then be sure to cover your hair with a scarf or hat before you step out. Get a hot-oil massage sometime before the week of your wedding. Not only will this rejuvenate your hair, it will also give it a healthy and glossy sheen.

CONDITIONING

It is always advisable to go for monthly deep conditioning treatments, from your stylist. This can be tried at home too; however, get at least one treatment from the stylist. Before you get your beauty rest the evening before your wedding, treat your hair to a conditioning mask to add extra shine and moisture.

COLORING

Coloring your hair in a new shade should ideally be done 3-4 months before the D-day. One can try professional color and highlights to increase the glamour quotient. If you color your hair, schedule a touch-up for two weeks before the Big Day. This will give your color time to settle, allow your hair to re-hydrate and also give you time to adjust to the color or add on other shades, if needed.

DANDRUFF

Dandruff can be treated by applying warm coconut, almond or olive oil to the scalp (and not hair) and massaging very gently in circular movements for 15-20 minutes would help. To open up the pores, dip a thick towel in hot water, remove the excess water from it and cover your scalp for 5 minutes. Wash off with a gentle shampoo. Do not keep oil on the scalp for a long time as it attracts dust, pollution and sweat making the scalp dirty.

STYLE

Long hair is more popular for weddings, as a variety of styles can be sported. Even if the bride has short hair, hair extensions are an answer to their problems, but they must ensure that it is safely secured in place; else it will cause an embarrassment if it were to come off! Wedding hairstyles have come a long way from traditional French twists and sculpted up-dos. You can bring in photographs of hairstyles you like to your stylist, along with the attire – as this may help inform your hairstyle choice.

EXTENSIONS

Hair extension is a technique, in which human hair is treated and lined, the cuticles are left intact and all face root to end, which means there are no hassles of your hair getting tangled. It is long – lasting and affordable too. Weaved in hair extensions are the most popular and versatile.

To conclude, if you haven’t been taking care of your hair well, the time before your wedding is the perfect time to start with good hair-care habits. The key is to continue with most of these even after your wedding, for happily ever after hair days! With just a few months of healthy hair care and a great wedding-day style, you’ll turn more than a few heads on your big day! Following a trial routine prior to the d- day helps. So happy styling and do take care of your hair, especially before your wedding day!
