Aroras are a subcategory of people living in the western Punjab region. They are also found in small numbers in few other states nearby, but most of them are living in the western Punjab region in general. They are given this name from a word "Aur" which means "Other" in Hindi. It is believed that these people belonged to a different religion, but when they wanted to avoid being known by that name, they started adding the word "Aur" as their religion, which later became "Arora". Traditionally, Aroras are hard workers as they moved from one place to other to get settled. They learnt to do the local work very efficiently and worked for the benefit of the group they belong to. This has given them a good social respect where they are given important responsibilities and they take them very seriously. Today Aroras are well read, they go to nice jobs, they work for themselves by starting their own business. But their sense of hard work and doing good things for the society is something which continues even today, which is spread to young people by their proud children. Aroras matrimony process starts when a parent comes to a decision that his or her son / daughter is ready to get married and they prepare a profile. This profile is then shared with number of people who may be in the community, or others who are outside the community but willing to help. This can also be uploaded in a website where profiles can be filtered and read by people. Once the prospective family reads the profile, they contact this family to discuss marriage arrangements.
