Nairs are people from Kerala. They are a special sub religion in this region who add Nair in the back of their names. For example "Madhavan Nair", "Sushila Nair" etc. Today Nairs are spread all over India and other countries, but the majority of Nairs are still living in Kerala. They have their unique customs and habits that are followed with pride. Typically, Nairs live in large groups. These groups are determined by families originating from a particular person. These groups are called "Tharavads" . They were involved in the wars, proudly going to fight for their land or their king. This route has given them lot of unique benefits in terms of the respect they get from the society. They have fought wars in Portuguese era, Travancore era, British era and even after India got her independence. There is a specific dress code for Nairs. Men wear something called a "Mundu" (a special way to wear a dhoti) and women wear a cloth around their loins. Once again, like many other castes, this system is changing and the young people wear these only when there is some festival. Otherwise they wear a regular clothing like people from other castes. Even using the name "Nair" behind the name is slowly changing. Nair matrimony has number of great resources available online. These websites help Nair boys and girls get connected to each other either directly, or through their parents. Once a suitable match is seen, the marriage arrangements will start, which is an elaborate and great procedure.
