Kapus are a subcategory of Hindus who are mainly living in various regions of Andhra Pradesh. They are also present in other states such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Orissa, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. They may be present in small numbers on other states too. The word "Kapu" means aggregator. As the name suggests, traditionally people from this community worked as aggregators, working on fields, working towards feeding the entire society with their careful hands. This tradition continues even today as many of the Kapu families are engaged in agricultural work, while few others have moved to jobs in other fields. Traditionally, Kapus are influential people in society. They are very good in working with others, discussing problems and getting practical solutions. Hence, you can find them participating and leading many public initiatives. They work hard in their fields or other job and make sure anything that is assigned to them is done perfectly and in the best possible manner. They are proud of their tradition and respect it. They typically speak Telugu as their main language, while few others may speak other language such as Kannada etc. depending on where they live. Kapu matrimony process is an important initiative that a family starts when their son or daughter reaches the right age. They prepare a profile of them with all required details and start distributing it to everyone they know. This gets them new contacts who are seeking a match. Once a suitable match is found, both the families decide on the marriage plan accordingly.
