In Karnataka state of India, generally Shetty community is found. Basically they are found doing trades and businesses. And they are into all kind of businesses. But basically this community is a part of Bunt clan of Karnataka. Bunt clan is similar to Kshatriyas and they are basically soldiers. InCoastal Karnataka basically this community and Shetty title is found. It has been derived from the Sanskrit Ĺˇresthi, which means head of a mercantile. Though they are found in mercantile, they are not basically trading class. Rather they are a land-owning and farming class in South Kanara, a coastal district of Karnataka. This surname is also found with the Jain community of this region. The Bunt rituals are not related to any Vedic rituals. They do not follow any Hindu customs. They have their own customs and they worship their own deity. They are the one who believes in Ghost worship and going to temple is not considered mandatory for them. As the Shetty community belong to the Bunt, the Shetty follow the rituals of Bunt. The Shetty also follow simple marriage rituals, though now the community has adapted other community's rituals. The Shetty brides are well adorned in a typical south Indian way. All the rituals rightly belong to this Bunt clan. The Mangalasana ritual is considered as the major ritual of theBunt marriage. There the bride and groom take the holy bath with coconut milk and turmeric. With a series of rituals like Murthasaese, lagnam, Dharemaipuna, and Homam, the marriage gets accomplished.
