Gowdas are a subcategory of Hindus. This name comes to a family through a responsibility its chief takes. In fact the name Gowda itself means head in Kannada. So, someone who is responsible as the chief of a village is usually called a Gowda. Their family will automatically start getting that surname and that's how the Gowda community thrived. Gowdas were very experienced and experts in understanding various people issues and providing optimal solutions to them. Hence people came to them whenever they had a dispute and this made them socially high. Even kings and rulers used to take suggestions from Gowda people whenever necessary. Today, Gowdas hold esteemed positions in society. They live mostly in the Karnataka state which is in South India. They generally speak Kannada. They are present in small numbers in other neighboring states around Karnataka. But their main influence is in Karnataka. They are working on all possible fields, some starting their own businesses while others working on government organizations and private companies in positions with power. They have a unique set of habits that are followed as a community and this is transferred from one generation to another as a duty. Gowdas matrimony process starts with a parent creating a profile for his or her son or daughter. They then distribute it to their family members, friends and others who may help them in finding a match. This results in many enquiries which are further analyzed to find the best match for the boy or the girl. Once both families agree on this, the marriage arrangements start in a great level.
