Once they were a secluded race from the society of Kerala, so they followed their own tradition. The kudumbis now possess a good status in the society. They culture the shrimps in the backwater area of the Kerala. They are found to follow some of the cultures from south India and from Maharashtra, a state of western India. Basically their marriage ceremony is influenced by the South Indian tradition. Their marriage ceremony starts with engagement ceremony and ends with the Magalsutra ceremony. They show respect to the maternal uncle of the Kudumbi Bride. It is unique to their culture. Their marriage is an anti-dowry system and they follow marriages within their community only. Now the inter-caste marriages are taking place at a faster rate. Majorly the educated professionals are undergoing the inter-caste marriage. Marriage is now a custom mostly based on the financial conditions of the families. The matrimonial ceremony has been shortened to a one-day affair.
