Happier is the man who finds a true friend, and far happier is the man who finds the true friend in his wife. Being said that, women in Pune have been known for their beauty, grace and faithfulness. Most of them belong to Marwari community. Marriage is a very pious occasion for them and is celebrated on a very grand scale. Once I got an opportunity to witness a wedding in Pune. My sister's friend was getting married there and he invited us all. The Engagement ceremony took place at the groom's residence. Clothes, fruits, sweets, sword and other gifts were presented to the bridegroom by the bride's father after applying the "Tika". Afterwards vibrant rituals like Ganapati Sthapna, Griha Shanti ceremony, Pithi Dastoor, Mahira Dastoor, Janev & Palla Dastoor and Nikasi were observed. On the wedding day, we went to the bride's resident in a Rajput Baraat, accompanied by only male members. The groom looked dashing in his gold achkan, jodhpuris and orange turban. Soon the traditional aarti was performed and we were welcomed inside by Bride's mother. Afterwards the groom was escorted to the mandap where rituals like GranthiBandhan ,Paanigrahan, Pheras , Ashwarohan,VamangSthapna and Sindoordaan were took place. In the end the groom was adorned with tika after sitting on his new asana and soon after the Bride sorrowfully bade goodbye to her beloved family, friends and relatives, and goes for Grihpravesh. The whole affair is extravagant and very colorful. It was such a memorable day. Thus marriages are easy today.
