The Kuruhina shetty community is native of suburban regions of Gujarat. They are hard working and they generally choose to do business. This community is a rich community where most of the people are established businessmen. But being very conservative, they choose to marry amidst their community. In their marriage, finding brides or grooms for the sons and daughters are generally accomplished by the elders of the household. The match making is accomplished according to one's caste and financial status. Though the changing era has allowed this community to permit love marriages and some kind of inter-caste marriage can be found due to this reason. As most of the members of this community are rich and established, their matrimonial ceremonies are generally lavish. They celebrate all the events of marriage with all pomp and joy. Like all Hindu marriages, they too follow a series of ceremonies which include Sangeet, mehendi, haldi and shadi. The Sangeet ceremony brings a lot of fun making which is usually celebrated with songs and dances. The relatives of the Kuruniha shetty grooms and brides celebrate this occasion as this is considered as one of the auspicious occasion. After Sangeet, there comes the Mehendi which includes tattooing on the palms. With the Mehendi paste made from the leaves of a small shrub, the hands of female members of the house are coloured. Haldi is another ritual mostly followed in Hindu culture. The Kuruniha shetty community also follows the Haldi ritual where the paste of turmeric is applied on the bride and the groom. It is believed that it brings sanctity to the body of the bride and groom. On the following day, marriage is accomplished among all the friends and relatives. The marriage follows a lavish dinner where all the acquaintances are invited.
